Common insurance questions
Do I pay you to help me choose a plan?
Medicare and health insurance reviews are free. As a licensed broker we are paid by the insurance company when you enroll, and you can ask us at any time how we are paid. If any other service has a fee, it is explained and agreed with you before we begin.
When can I enroll in or change a Medicare plan?
Your first chance is the seven-month window around your 65th birthday. After that, the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, and Medicare Advantage members can make one change from January 1 to March 31. Some life events, like moving, open a Special Enrollment Period.
What should I bring to a Medicare review?
Your Medicare card, a list of your medicines and doses, your doctors and pharmacy, and any current plan information.
Do you work with only one insurance company?
No. We are appointed with several of the major Medicare and health insurance companies in New York. During your free review, we show you the plans available to you, side by side. We do not offer every plan in your area; Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE list all of your options.
Can I get the Essential Plan or a Marketplace plan through you?
Yes. We are certified to help you enroll through NY State of Health, HealthCare.gov and Get Covered New Jersey. In New York, Essential Plan enrollment is open all year for people who qualify.
Will you pressure me to buy?
No. A review is not a commitment. Take the information home, ask questions in your language, and decide when you are ready.
Who do you help?
Individuals, whether you are single, working, between jobs or new to insurance. Families who need coverage for a spouse and children. People turning 65 or already on Medicare, including people with both Medicare and Medicaid. Newcomers to the U.S., self-employed people without an employer plan, riders, homeowners and renters, and travelers. Small businesses that want group health or group life coverage for their employees. Don't see yourself here? You are still welcome. Tell us what you need and we will help you find the right option.
What are my Medicare options?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a private plan approved by Medicare that replaces Original Medicare for your hospital and medical coverage; many include drug coverage, and you keep paying your Part B premium. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works with Original Medicare to help pay copays, coinsurance and deductibles, and is usually paired with a Part D drug plan. A Part D plan adds prescription drug coverage. Special Needs Plans are for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, certain chronic conditions, or who live in a nursing home. We meet with Medicare clients in person at our Brooklyn office.
Do you offer travel insurance, home warranties or auto warranties?
Yes. Through our partner programs we offer IMG International travel medical insurance for trips abroad and visitors to the U.S., TEND home warranty coverage for home systems and appliances, and auto warranty plans (vehicle service contracts) for repairs after your factory warranty ends. An auto warranty is not auto insurance. Ask us for details.
Where can I get help with Medicaid or a Marketplace plan?
We can help you apply. You can also contact NY State of Health, New York’s official health plan marketplace, at 1-855-355-5777. Medicaid, Child Health Plus, the Essential Plan and Qualified Health Plans are all available through NY State of Health. In New York City, you can also apply for Medicaid through HRA.
Where can I get official Medicare information?
Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227, TTY 1-877-486-2048) or visit Medicare.gov. For free, unbiased Medicare counseling in New York, call HIICAP at 1-800-701-0501.
